[ THE CONTEXT ]
Users may open Waze to explore a route between two places, not navigate from their current location.
START IS LOCKED TO YOUR LOCATION
Routes always begin from your current GPS position, even when you want to plan from somewhere else.
CHANGING THE ORIGIN IS BURIED
Setting a different starting point is hard to find, so planning a trip ahead feels out of reach.

Make the starting point as easy to set as the destination.
One design goal shapes the exploration: give the driver control over where a route begins.

Let travelers set the start point
Make the starting location an editable field in the route flow, with quick access to current, saved, and recent places.

Drivers decide where the journey starts without leaving the route screen.
SOLUTION 01
Set where the route begins
The map keeps a Your Location field pinned above the trip. Tapping it opens a Choose Start Location screen where the start point can be the current location, a saved place like Home or Work, a recent destination, or any address by search.
KEY DECISION
Saved and recent places lead the list. When people plan from somewhere other than where they are, it is usually a place they already know.
[ OUTCOME ]
Route planning stops assuming you are already at the start. Travelers can check a route or distance from anywhere — a place they are heading to, a spot they know, or an address someone sent

Making the starting location editable showed that route planning should support both immediate navigation and trips that begin somewhere else.
